Stéphanie Gouin

Dr. Stéphanie Gouin is a young organist, collaborative pianist, and voice coach from the Southern Ontario area. Starting the piano at age 15, she dove into the serious study of classical music head first. Soon after, she undertook collegiate, undergraduate, and graduate degrees in performance, culminating in a DMA in solo piano performance in 2017 with Professor Stéphan Sylvestre.

 

From September 2020 until April 2023, Stephanie held the position of choir organist at the Huron University Chapel, where she discovered a new passion for the Anglican musical tradition and its wide breadth of organ and choral repertoire. There, she contributed to build a full-scale choral and musical university program where students could learn about the rich tradition of sacred music and become proficient musicians. The choral program provided multiple services each week, such as Eucharist Mass, Choral Evensong, Compline, and performed in multiple large-scale events and concerts such as Buxtehude’s cycle of cantatas Membra Jesu Nostri and Fauré’s Requiem.

 

A collaborator at heart, Stephanie has specialized during her doctorate in accompanying and coaching singers. After her graduation, she worked extensively as a collaborative pianist in multiple voice studios at Western University, as well as an opera repetiteur and choir accompanist. She recorded Donizetti’s opera “Lucia di Lammermoor” in October 2020 with Jeunesses Musicales Canada, and was on Opera on the Avalon’s artistic team as their main pianist for their production of Powder Her Face, whose 2020 and 2021 performances were unfortunately cancelled. Equally at home as a chamber musician, she has performed with her duet partner violinist Émilie Paré in Nova-Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario.

 

Stephanie is absolutely thrilled to join the musical team at Grace Church on the Hill, where she can combine at once her love of the organ, of the Anglican musical tradition, and of nuanced artistic collaboration.
