Sidespeople
On Sunday mornings you will be met at the door by our “sidespeople,” greeters who are there to help you feel
welcome at Grace Church on-the-Hill. We are the first face of the parish to newcomers, and play an important role in making everyone feel comfortable in church.
One of the primary functions of the sidespeople is to make sure you have everything you need to participate in the service. In addition to handing out the order of service and the appropriate prayer books, the sidespeople are there to help you with anything you may need and to answer any questions you may have.
If you have children, the sidespeople will direct you to the Sunday school and the nursery. If you are a senior and need assistance with anything, the sidespeople will be there to help. The sidespeople will help you find a seat, provide the hearing assistance devices if needed, and later take up the collection and supervise communion.
At the end of the service, the clergy will typically deliver the announcements for the week and invite you to join others for coffee following the service. The sidespeople will then be at the back of the church to make sure you know where to go for
coffee and will provide you with information on other events taking place that week. If you are visiting Grace Church on-the-Hill, the sidespeople will introduce you to the clergy and to other members of the con-gregation. We are not only the best source of information, we also try to be the most welcoming members of the congregation.
If you are a visitor to Grace Church on-the-Hill, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople when you arrive. We will make sure you feel welcome. If you would like to become a sidesperson, please contact Tom Little, the head of the sidespeople, at 416-359-5483 during the day or at 416-480-0197 in the evening. Duties rotate weekly, and a schedule is published every two months. We are always delighted to have new members in this important role in the life of the church.
Servers
For the Spring 2010 servers' schedule for the 11 am Sunday service, click HERE.

The role of servers is to assist the clergy in the order of the Sunday Service. The servers perform various tasks before, during, and after a service. The various roles are Crucifer, Gospeler, and Acolyte. Prior to the Sunday service, servers make sure all appropriate literature is made available for the clergy at their seats and the side table is set with the chalices, patens, and other serving items. At the start of the service, servers lead the procession carrying the cross and candles. During the service, the servers assist the deacon in the reading of the Gospel and the preparation of the Eucharistic table. After the service, they are responsible for tidying up the altar area.
These tasks are very important to the smooth running of a service. In addition, it is spiritually satisfying to work closely with our clergy to the glory of God. Serving at Grace Church is a wonderful way to meet and grow in friendship with other members of Grace Church family. If you would like to take part and learn more about faith, speak to any Clergy member about becoming a server. It is open to anyone over the age of 9. In fact, serving as a family is often done at Grace: brother and sister, father and son, mother and daughter. You may choose the service at which you would like to serve: 9:15 or 11 AM.
