Stephen Frketic, Organist and Choirmaster
Stephen Frketic holds a Masters degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Toronto, and is also an accomplished organist, holding a Bachelors degree in Organ Performance from Indiana University's prestigious Jacobs School of Music. Before moving to Toronto, Mr. Frketic (pronounced Fre-tick), previously worked as a high school choir director in Houston, Texas. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Stephen loves travel and adventure: he also has spent a year living in Tokyo working as an ESL teacher, and a summer in Moscow studying the Russian language.
Stephen is currently a member of the evensong choir at St. Thomas’s Anglican Church, Toronto, and also works as the Assistant Conductor of Toronto’s Common Thread Community Chorus. He is excited to lead the choirs of Grace Church on-the-Hill, embracing the strong existing choral tradition here, and adding emphasis on musical education, community building, and enriching worship.
Sarah Hicks, Assistant Conductor
Mezzo-soprano Sarah Hicks completed her degree in Performance Voice at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. After returning to Toronto Ms. Hicks began her carrer as a singer and teacher. Sarah has worked with several Toronto opera companies including Opera York, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre and Opera by Request and has been featured as a soloist with the Toronto Classical Singers and Arcady Ensemble.
Sarah has taught voice for the past five years as well as leading the Women and Girl's choirs of Grace Church on the Hill during an interim period in 2011. Ms. Hicks also regularly works as a guest artist and music educator with DareArts, an organization that focuses on making arts education accessible to student's from priority areas. Sarah is a passionate educator and musician and is thrilled to once again be leading the women's choir at Grace Church on the Hill.
