The Book and Film Group

The Group will have its first meeting of the 2010-11 season on Monday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. James Stikeman will be leading the discussion of the internationally best-selling book, The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Scienceby Toronto native, Norman Doidge, M.D.

The Globe and Mail reported that "Doidge... is a master .... at explaining science to the rest of us.  Doidge is the best possible guide.  You don't have to be a brain surgeon to read it, just curious about your brain." All are welcome to attend the meeting, held in the Reception Room.  So that we may plan properly, please let us know in advance of your attendance by an RSVP to Bettie Tullis at blt55@mac.com or 416-963-4917.

Book and Film Group meets 7 times a year in the church Reception Room behind the Parish Hall. The usual day is the fourth Monday in the month, but to accommodate other church activities, the day is occasionally shifted. Book discussion meetings normally start at 7:30 PM. This past year, we twice met at 6 PM in order to eat a pizza supper while viewing the film of the evening. Members share the discussion responsibilities and debate is often lively. New members are most welcome.

On February 1, 2010, we discussed The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill; on March 1, 2010 Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson was the subject. On March 29, we watched The Reader after a pizza supper. Our season ended with the annual planning meeting on April 19.

For further information about the Group's activities, please phone or e-mail:  Bettie Tullis, 416-963-4917, <blt55@mac.com> or Susannah D. Ketchum, 416-944-1116, <susannah.d.ketchum@sympatico.ca>.

Please check the Announcements page to see the book or film that will be discussed this month.

Each Sunday there are normally three services:

8:00 AM
A reflective communion service, beautiful and simple, with quiet fellowship for the early risers.

9:15 AM

A sung Eucharist using the modern language of the Book of Alternative Services.

11:00 AM
A traditional service using the Book of Common Prayer. Two Sundays each month there is a Matins service and on the remaining Sundays the service is a sung Eucharist.

On Vestry Sunday, and during the summer, the 9:15 and 11:00 services

are combined at 10:00.
